Bar Hendrik is named after the famous Dutch architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage. With his recognizable architectural style, he left an indelible mark on Amsterdam. As an urban planner, he was involved in the urban expansion of Amsterdam-Zuid, the place where Bar Hendrik is located. Berlage was more than just an architect; in addition to being an urban planner, he was also a furniture designer, glass designer and draughtsman. Everything he undertook revolved around the balance between efficiency and beauty. The execution of his designs came about through collaborations. He therefore strove for a "total work of art.
This is also our chef's philosophy. The menu is created by our highly trained and experienced chef according to Berlage's principles of honesty, efficiency and beauty. All dishes have that beautiful balance of refined, quality yet accessible food. This together with our fantastic team forms a "total work of art. Besides good food and cozy drinks, Bar Hendrik also contributes to a sustainable world. The chef uses ingredients that are locally sourced and fresh daily. A beautiful approach that we as a team are quite proud of.
